Ballywalter Rec was formed in 1977 from the nucleus of Ballywalter Rangers who had just won
the Tom Kelly cup, the McCaw shield and finished runner up in the 1st division of the Down Area
league. James Brian was the manager at this time. From 1977 until September 2001 the team
competed in the Down Area league before being accepted into the Amateur league. The team is
currently based at Ballywalter Bowling Club and is in the process of formalising an amalgamation
with that club. The first team play in division 2B of the Amateur league while the second eleven
play in Division 3E of the same league. A youth team is being formed by Kenny Brown the clubs
youth development officer. The manager of the first team is Alan Davidson assisted by Gary Thompson.
The manager of the second eleven is Roy Shaw assisted by Paul Dempster. The committee is headed
by the office bearers Ivan McNamara (chairman), Ian Larkin (secretary), and Samuel Pyper (treasurer).
